Sneaky showers, fruit wine and underwhelming rocks

With my french warehouse filled to capacity, it was time to move on from Quebec.

The next few days were a lovely drive through New Brunswick. Charlotte and I frolicked along the banks of the St.Lawrence River before turning south to Edmunston, and an overnight stay in St. Leonard simply for the doff of the cap to my alma mater St Leonards College.

The next day it was due east towards Miramichi, where I snuck a cheeky “shower” at the splash pad at Richie Wharf Park – and yes I waited until there were no kids playing, and I didn’t use shampoo.

It was also a place to note the difference in housing prices – for a mere $179,900 you could be the proud owner of this fabulous mansion. It might need a little work though.

From there it was a lovely drive along the edge of the Gulf of St Lawrence to Moncton for an overnight rest stop.

The drive was beautiful, full of sweeping views, beautiful old churches, cute little lighthouses and and unexpected discovery, the delightful Waterside Winery, where they make truly impressive fruit wines. The rhubarb wine is brilliant!

The next morning it was off to Canada’s answer to Australia’s renowned 12 Apostles, Hopewell Rocks.

The advantage that Hopewell has is the huge difference in tidal water levels, which allow you to walk on the floor of the Gulf at low tide. It’s a pleasant park to walk around, but as far as world class sites go, it lacks a little pizzazz.

Charlotte and I put Hopwell Rocks into the rear vision mirror as we headed to beautiful Saint John for the weekend.

There Charlotte and I had a relaxing time, sampling the various products of Bigtide Brewing and watching the local area sports competitions from baseball to ultimate frisbee.

The latter is a lot of fun to watch, owing much to the fact that the skill level was park rather than professional level, with all the accompanying laughter, encouragement and self reproach. The women in the mixed teams were a lot more vocal than the men, in particular one young lady, who could not contain her exasperation at dropping 3 catches in a row, or her delight in completing the fourth.

The weekend stretched into an extra few days of relaxation and blog updates, before the final part of the New Brunswick leg of the journey, the trip north to the provincial capital, Fredericton in time for the Canada Day celebrations.

The detail on that soon.

Hi there. Feel free to make a comment if you want. I'll be reading each and every one and getting back to you as soon as I can
