Chattanooga Choo Choo

On the drive south from Lexington, there is a natural stop at the world famous Chattanooga, TN

I’m not really sure why it’s famous, but that name is well known out of the States, as far as I know.

Chattanooga is a really pretty place, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and wedged between two “lakes” that form part of the Tennesse river.

Nearby Lookout Mountain is tranquil, as is the town – so a perfect antidote to the craziness in Lexington.

Now I associate this place with the old song “Chattanooga Choo Choo” which I must have heard in my childhood – I seem to faintly remember it being a theme song for some tv show, but I might be wrong on that.

Nowadays, this is now the name of a historic hotel in the old terminus buildings, which also has specialty rooms made in old Pullman Train Cars

Unfortunately the specialty rooms are around 200 USD per night, which at this stage of things, would have been an gluttonous indulgence.

Instead I have a couple of beers at the Next door Terminal Brewhouse, which to be honest is disappointing – there were only 5 home brewed options to choose from, and my choices were no impressive

An evening constitutional stroll stroll along the Riverwalk, taking in the gentle flow of the Tennesse River caps off a day where serenity and relaxation have gently replaced the craziness of Lexington.

Next stop Alabama.
